It's heavy and you'll certainly feel it in your rucksack, but the keyboard is excellent and the general speed is on par with the very best laptops have to offer at the moment. Easy games such as Left4Dead 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim should run fine but with tough games such as Crysis 3, you'll need to tone down the details or the resolution to see frame rates that are consistently smooth. The down side to all those pixels, though, is that games get harder for the graphics to deal with. The screen is superb and websites, photos and games are pin-sharp. The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro is a remarkable machine. In 2D testing in image editing, rendering and video encoding, the GT60 2PE Dominator Pro performed admirably, matching the likes of Intel's Core i5-4670K in many tests, which is a popular desktop processor with enthusiasts at the moment. Less demanding games will likely be fine at the native resolution, but it's clear that just like its desktop counterparts, graphics companies Nvidia and AMD have some work to do to allow single graphics processor machines to play games smoothly at these new ultra high resolutions. Due to the crazy amount of pixels the graphics processor has to deal with, the GT60 2PE Dominator Pro struggled in demanding games such as Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4, and I had to drop the resolution to 1080p to get things smooth enough to be playable. ![]() Gaming performance was something of a complicated area. The battery lasted just over an hour while gaming away from mains power at maximum settings, but this increased to nearly three hours while watching a film with WiFi enabled and the screen at 40 per cent brightness. It's not likely something you'd be able to use on a plane unless you're in business class - ultrabooks are the best bet here. Of course all this high-end hardware means it's not particularly thin and is over 2in thick and weighs 3.5kg. The trackpad is a little on the small side but equally responsive and easy to use, although the one-piece button can be stiff in the centre. The keys themselves feel fantastic, with plenty of travel, a pleasant textured surface and ample responsiveness too. It features full RGB backlighting, which is customisable so you can illuminate different areas in different colors or simply pick your own colour from thousands to illuminate the entire set of keys. Bundled extras include a custom laptop rucksack, SteelSeries Kinzu gaming mouse, SteelSeries Limited Edition Red Siberia MSI branded gaming headset and an MSI gaming mouse surface - everything you need for gaming on the move. There's 16GB of RAM too - more than enough for any current game, while there's also three USB 3 ports, an HDMI port, two mini DisplayPorts and Windows 8 included as standard. ![]()
